The Crafty Devils held their debut gathering last Saturday at the Guildford Mechanics Institute.
It was the first sunny Saturday in weeks, but a lovely bunch of crafty people still decided to get their creative energy flowing.
There was knitting, sewing, crochet, paper cutting, bunting making, clay sculpting and more happening around the room. There was even a giant Scrabble game constructed by one crafty person!
There was discussion about future “craft lab” ideas for the group to develop. Some of the exciting possibilities include: soap making, jewellery/beading, candle-making, felting, crochet, perfume, mosaics, drawing, paper-cuts, knitting, crochet, spinning, calligraphy, macramé, upcycling, card-making, book binding, origami, lino cutting, woodworking, welding/metalwork, bronze or glass casting, soft toys, floral design, dying textiles, hypertufa, pottery, refashioning, leadlighting, personal care products.
The next session will take place on Saturday, October 5 from 1 to 3 pm and feature a sizzling segment on “plarn” making led by Eleanor. Attendees may participate in the workshop during the first half or stick with open crafting throughout. Bring along some old plastic bags eg. bread bags, shopping bags, and turn them into an unusual but sturdy yarn! You will need a 10mm crochet hook or 10mm knitting needles. Suits people with some experience in knitting or crochet.
Thanks to everyone who helped launch the new Crafty Devils group. If you haven’t checked us out yet, please come along to our next gathering and get crafty! Cost is just $5 for the session and includes tea & tasty treats.
