April Movie night – North of the Sun

Our April movie is a film by two young Norwegians, about an adventure above the Artic circle. There’s surf, drift wood, simple living and stunning scenery. It’s won multiple awards, come check it out.

NorthoftheSun

“Inge Wegge (25) and Jørn Ranum (22) spent nine months of cold, Norwegian winter in the isolated and uninhabited bay of a remote, arctic island by the coast of Northern-Norway, facing nothing but the vast Atlantic Ocean. There they built a cabin out of driftwood and other cast-off materials that washed up on shore, and ate expired food the stores would otherwise have thrown away.” via IMDB. Rated 8.4/10

Dive Poster

“Follow filmmaker Jeremy Seifert and his circle of friends as they dumpster dive in the back alleys and gated garbage receptacles of L.A.’s supermarkets. In the process they uncover thousands of dollars worth of good food and an ugly truth about waste in America: grocery stores know they are wasting and most refuse to do anything about it.” via IMDB. Join us for a special end of year movie and celebration. In lieu of our Christmas Picnic, come join us for some food and drinks at the Stirling Arms from 6 pm and then stay for this Christmas themed movie – What Would Jesus Buy?

WWJB poster

“An examination of the commercialization of Christmas in America while following Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping Gospel Choir on a cross-country mission to save Christmas from the Shopocalypse (the end of humankind from consumerism, over-consumption and the fires of eternal debt.) The film also delves into issues such as the role sweatshops play in America’s mass consumerism and Big-Box Culture. From the humble beginnings of preaching at his portable pulpit on New York City subways, to having a congregation of thousands – Bill Talen (aka Rev. Billy) has become the leader of not just a church, but a national movement.”
