TRANSPORT

Road safety for bikes and pedestrians

Are there places in Guildford or surrounding suburbs where it’s hard to cross the road on foot or a bike? We’re currently working with the City of Swan to identify road safety ‘hot spots’. For example, the lack of a pedestrian crossing between the Guildford Train Station and James street shops. If you have any spots where you have trouble, please comment or send us an email (ttguildford@gmail.com).

WASTE

Container refund scheme

For over 30 years South Australia has had a highly successful container refund scheme for recyclable containers (cans & bottles). You would have seen the text on your drinks “10c refund on deposit in SA”. This has vastly increased the level of recycling in SA, created money for community groups and additional jobs. Seems like a ‘no brainer’ that WA should do the same!? However, lobbying from beverage companies and their representatives has stalled and delayed action. The Northern Territory has just joined SA, and TT Guildford supports WA being next!

Bag free Guildford

Single use plastic bags are a waste of energy, resources and a considerable litter source. The City of Fremantle recently decided to go ‘bag free’, and we’re hoping Guildford and surrounding suburbs can do the same in the near future.

Take action: If you’re a local business, please consider options to reduce or  replace the use of plastic bags.
